Correlating viscosity of 2-ethylhexyl oleic estolide esters to their molecular weight

چکیده

Estolides are a relatively new class of biobased materials, and their properties not thoroughly investigated. Since they have been recently commercialized as lubricants, deeper investigation viscosity was warranted. Five 3-parameter models with theoretical derivations were found in the literature. Additionally, several empirical 2- models, including one 4-parameter model, used to describe lipids, selected for investigation. These fit experimental 13 oleic estolide ester samples. The measured at six temperatures between 20 100 °C. jackknife procedure estimate uncertainty fitted parameters. For theory-based correlations derived coefficients molecular weight sample. results allowed simple prediction esters function temperature, based only on number-average (or number). best model required additional knowledge weight-average weight.

Improved oxidative stability of estolide esters

Some concerns have been raised regarding the oxidative stability of vegetable-based fluids. Thus, a wide range of commercial and vegetable-based materials were evaluated for their oxidative stability by the rotating bomb oxidative test (RBOT). RBOT values ranged from 13 to 552 min. Two estolides, coconut-oleic estolide 2-ethylhexyl ester (coco) and oleic estolide 2-ethylhexyl ester (oleic), wer...

Synthesis of Some High-molecular Weight Esters in Supercritical Alcohols

Esterification of several carboxylic acids with supercritical alcohols such as 1-propanol, 1butanol, 1-octanol, isoamylalcohol, ethanol, methanol, and subcritical benzyl alcohol without using any catalyst was studied. A variety of esters were synthesized very effectively using supercritical alcohols as solvent and reagent. Moderate to excellent yields were obtained depending on the nature of th...

Synthesis and Physical Properties of Estolide Ester Using Saturated Fatty Acid and Ricinoleic Acid

A study was conveyed to produce estolide ester using ricinoleic acid as the backbone. The ricinoleic acid reacted with saturated fatty acid from C8-C18. These reactions were conducted under vacuum at 60°C for 24 h without solvent. The reaction used acid catalyst, sulphuric acid. The new saturate ricinoleic estolide esters show superior low-temperature properties (-52 ± 0.08°C) and high flash po...

Comparison of hepatic peroxisome proliferative effect and its implication for hepatocarcinogenicity of phthalate esters, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, and di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate with a hypolipidemic drug.

Peroxisome proliferation is inducible in hepatocytes of rodent and nonrodent species by structurally dissimilar hypolipidemic drugs and certain phthalate ester plasticizers. The induction of peroxisome proliferation appears to be a tissue specific response limited largely to the hepatocyte. Peroxisome proliferation is associated with increases in the activity of the H2O2-generating peroxisomal ...

Di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate*

Di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate [bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate, DEHA, octyl adipate, dioctyl adipate, DOA, CAS No. 103-23-1], a plasticizer added to vinyl plastics to give low temperature flexibility, is dispersed (not bound) in the polymer chain matrix. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in plastics that may contact nonfatty, nonalcoholic foods (not to exceed 24% by weight of the p...
